FOUNDER - BOARD CHAIRMAN - CONSULTANT DERMATOLOGIST - PAN AFRICANIST - PHILANTHROPIST
Professor Edmund Nminyem Delle, Founder, Board Chairman and Chief Physician and Consultant Dermatologist is a prominent Ghanaian Pan Africanist, medical doctor, politician, academic, businessman and philanthropist.
He was born on November 18, 1943 in Nandom in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Through the support of his mentor, His Eminence, the late Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery, he proceeded on scholarship to the University of Padua, Italy, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine and Surgery(MD) in 1970. Thereafter, he obtained a Post graduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium and a Diploma in Skin and Venereal Diseases (DSVD) at the University of Padua in 1972.
Having undertaken his post graduate studies, Prof. Delle was appointed a Resident Medical Officer and Lecturer in Skin Diseases from 1972 and 1974 at the University of Padua. After acquiring substantial academic and professional experience, he returned to start a private medical practice, thus Rabito Clinic, in Ghana in 1974. This was in fulfilment of his childhood dream to invest in Africa and serve his people. He named the clinic after his academic and career mentor Prof. Rabito formerly of the University of Padua, Italy.
Prof. Delle is very famous for his vast knowledge in the treatment of complex dermatological cases. In 2006, he was awarded the Marie Curie Award by the International Biographical Centre (IBC), in 2002 the American Biographical Institute (ABI) Hall of Fame and in 2007 the Ghana Medical and Dental Council’s Life Time Achievement Award. Prof. Delle was the recipient of Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana Award for the Best Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 for Medical & Health Services. Currently, Professor Delle is an Adjunct Professor of Dermatology at the University for Development Studies (UDS) where he is imparting his deep knowledge and rich experience in dermatology to young medical trainees. Prof. Delle’s contribution to healthcare services also includes outstanding research on the impact of bleaching on the skin.
He is a member of many national and international professional bodies: Fellow of the American Association of Dermatologists (FAAD) (1986); Member of the British Association of Dermatologists (MBAD) (1992); Commissioner for the International Commission for Health Professional (ICHP), an affiliate of the WHO (1989); Founding Member and a former National Secretary of the Ghana Society of Dermatologists; Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeon (2005); and Founding Member of the African Association of Dermatologists on which he served as Vice-President and Secretary General between 1991 and 1997, respectively
Prof. Delle has been honoured over the years for his dedication and remarkable achievements in Health and Human Rights. He is the Founder and President of the African Commission of Health and Human Rights Promoters, Ghana (CAPSDH), an NGO dedicated to tackling health and human right issues in Africa. CAPSDH has so far created treatment centers in all 10 regions in Ghana and has provided assistance throughout Africa to victims of human right violations. Furthermore, CAPSDH has provided counselling, food, clothing and shelter to people and increased awareness of health and human right issues through lectures and symposia in different communities.
Prof. Delle is the Board Chairman of the Catholic Centre for Hope for the Aged, Sick and Needy in Society. As a Secretary of the Catholic Doctors Guilds of Ghana he organised the first Pan-African Congress of Catholic Doctors in Ghana in 1984. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Standard Magazine and Newspapers Limited from 1976 to 1999.
Prof. Edmund Nminyem Delle is a Catholic and is married with five children.
